I have a template setup that has a first page header that is different to that for subsequent pages.

However, if I put a section break in my doc, Word puts the first page header at the beginning of the new section.

Is there a way of having the first page header only for the first page of the doc, rather than for the first page of each section?

      Hi Paul,

Easily solved. When you add the new section, make sure it’s selected then go into File|Page Setup|Layout and:
      1. Select ‘This point forward’ from the’Apply to’ drop-down,
      2. Uncheck ‘Different first page’.

      Cheers

        Wow, that easy huh!

        Thanks macropod.

Can I make this the default behaviour, or do I need to go through that procedure every time I add a new section?

By default, I believe that a new section after a break will have identical Page Setup to the previous section. You could: record a macro of inserting a section break and changing the Page Setup; use Tools>Customize to drag your macro to a toolbar; and then use that as your one-click solution.
