What’s up with the notice at the foot of the Firefox browser that tells me they “rebuilt Sync” and I should upgrade to a Firefox account?
What does this mean, and should we do this?

Why would you want yet another account – I’d be in trouble without a password manager for all of mine?
Backup your PC, including making a system image and you can’t go wrong.

FWIW,

I use XMarks to sync bookmarks between all browsers/devices.

I’d recommend MozBackup for backing up everything else in FF. MozBackup has saved my bacon more than once after a FF update. Just reload the last MozBackup and all my settings are back.
