By chance found that Firefox v3.0.2 is now up and downloadable .

Interestingly, for the first time I can remember, it required a reboot after upgrading.

      Thanks.

I installed 3.0.2 just now, and I only had to restart Firefox (as usual after an update), I didn’t have to restart Windows.

      (Edited by TonyE on 25-Sep-08 01:10. )

There is a regression in Firefox 3.0.2 that can cause new passwords to not be saved and an inability to read passwords that are already saved. This can happen if non-ASCII characters are used.

The developers are working on an urgent fix, but a workaround for this problem is to install Firefox 3.0.1 available from ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/3.0.1/

Edit: The developers have created a fix for this, it is currently being tested and Firefox 3.0.3 will probably be released within a few days.

Mozilla have now released Firefox 3.0.3. It contains one bug fix where users were unable to retrieve saved passwords or save new passwords.

There must be a lot of downloads happening. It just took over 8 minutes to download the 9.4 meg update which I would normally download in a few seconds.

Now to over-ride my extensions’ compatibility again. 😉

        Cheers

No idea if this is just my experience: I’ve tried several times to update,
and no success. An incremental download of around 1M wasn’t OK’d as being sound,
so the full (around 9M) file was downloaded, and that didn’t work either, and
I circled through these two processes 2 or 3 times, with no satisfaction. =?

Try downloading the setup file from http://www.mozilla.com/%5B/url%5D and installing it on top of your current version.

Thanks, Tony. That worked, naturally. I’m still puzzled about why the normal update process
never worked. All these years with computers — it’s a wonder my curiosity has survived.

The Firefox update process can sometimes be a bit temperamental. Most of the time it works, and if it does not work, re-installing will normally solve the problem.

Some people are reporting an update download size of 9 – 9.4 MB. My full download of “Firefox Setup 3.0.3.exe” is 7,333 KB. Should I be concerned? Why the difference? I had no problems with the install and it seems to be operating OK other than the window focus problem between Firefox and Thunderbird that popped up in Firefox 3.0.1 (see post 723139).

              Cheers,

That is the correct size for the full update. The setup file uses a much better compression routine, not sure why the update file can not use the same compression routine though I am sure there is a good reason.
