I am a user of Firefox ESR. After the recent Firefox update to  128.5, the search box  size was substantially reduced.

I have done several searches but found no manageable way to increase the size of the search space. Anyone out there have any suggestions for me?

    Peace, CAS

If I’m understanding you correctly, Settings > More tools > Customise toolbar.
Then you can add/remove/reorder items; make sure to click ‘Done’ down the bottom right when finished. From memory, I removed the ‘flexible space’ but a little experimentation will give you what you want.

Since you’ve referred to it as the “search box”, I assume that you are using separate address and search boxes?
If that is the case, once everything between the address box and the search box has been removed (as btbs described), you can exit the customisation tab, and then on any normal tab you will find that you can resize the address and search boxes together by clicking and dragging at the point between them.

@CAS, are you aware that Firefox 128.5.1 ESR was released on 29th November?

Update to that version to fix the website ‘SSL inspection’ issue and see whether the update corrects what reads like a file corruption.

      Use the manual method:
Download the correct bit option, language/ locale version and manually install for a non-delta update via:
      https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/128.5.1esr/

Install by double clicking the downloaded file then opt for the ‘Custom Install’ within the setup wizard, unticking all options presented (maintenance option is your preference when displayed)continue until the ‘Upgrade’ button is revealed. All will be retained as you had the browser previously and the searchbar should be fixed.
Let us know how you get on..

I updated to Firefox 128.5.1 ESR last month. After the update, the search box re-sized.

I tried to reorder and remove items to resize the search box and was not successful. Ultimately, I removed the search box completely and all is well. (In most cases the simplest answer is usually the best answer.)

Ultimately, I removed the search box completely and all is well.

I’d still do an over-the-top re-install to fix the issue, as described earlier.

Avoidance or hiding of an issue is not a definitive resolution to anything in computing which, can lead to other issues down the timeline. Especially given that browsers are the frontline to the World Wild Web where all sorts of nasties and spiders await.

After some additional research, I extended  the search box by simply placing my cursor between the address box and the search box and elongating the search box. All is well.
