Firefox plugin – Motive plugin

I have just discovered the url to carry out a plugin check – http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/ Three were tagged with a Research button.

Motive Plugin – I have not been able to discover what it is. When I clicked Research a web page opened with the search set to “current version plugin Motive Plugin” but none of the results told me anything about the plugin.

Can anyone shed some light please?

There were two others.
IE Tab but I know I have the latest extension.
2007 Microsoft Office System. As I do not use Office I disabled the plugin. The Research button found a Microsoft site with instructions on how to remove it but I do not have the required entry in my Add/Remove

NB. I am using XP.

Thanks for the quick response. The url you provided gave me some useful clues.

I have run AVG and it did not pick up any problem. I found the motive dll in Program Files and inserted XX in front of it – a good clue if I had to undo it. I rebooted, opened Firefox, checked the plugins and it had gone.

I will wait a few weeks to ensure no adverse reactions/problems then properly remove it.

It is interesting that there is a lack of clarity on what it is – malware in one post, key logger in another. I wonder if it is possible for Mozilla/Firefox to prevent it being installed.

In addition to plugins installed to its own folders, Firefox scans the registry for additional plugins. In theory you might be able to turn that off, but the instructions seem a bit complicated: Plugin scanning – MozillaZine Knowledge Base.

I’ve been wondering for a while what this plugin was. I’ve finally researched it. After performing a search of my drive, I have found it was installed in the fol directories C:Users(user name)AppdataRoaming, C:Program Data, c:Program FilesCommon FilesMotive. From there, I found out it was software designed by Alcatel Lucent Technologies, for Bell Communications and was used for the optimization of High Speed Internet. At first I had disabled it, but later re-enabled it. The only thing I wonder is Why the plugin has not been updated since about 2010.

if you look under the browser hood/configuration settnigs for firefox or palemoon via about:config and search for “motive”, a line will show up that references npmotive plugin.

if its value is set to 1, then the plugin is enable. if it is set to 0, then the plugin is disabled.

as far as removing it, you might try searching npmotive and the at&t program called Motive.

after searching my computer i found npmotive under a folder created by AT&T,

C:Program Files (x86)Common FilesMotive

while i would not have a problem trying to remove the plugin from the browser, i would be hesitant on removing the motive program itself since it could be tied to my internet service that is provided by att.
