What Firefox extensions do you use? If there are any you particularly recommend then why? A similar question was asked in May 2004 but a lot has changed since then.

Here are the extensions that I use:

The only one I use is the Web Developer Extension from Chris Pederick. Its main use is to web developers, and other people interested in peeking under the hood at why a web page is or isn’t working properly.

I have the following extensions that I use pretty frequently especially the spelling and the dictionary search ones. These two are my favourites!! I also see that I have a few in my extension list that I don’t need or want so I am going to remove them when I finish typing this!! grin

I also see a few in your list that I want to check out! thankyou

      1. DictionarySearch 0.9.3
      2. SpellBound 0.7.3
      3. QuickTabPrefToggle 0.0.4
      4. PopupAltAttribute 1.3.2005042001
      5. Bookmark Backup 0.3.3
      6. Launchy 4.0.0

      I’ve been using:

      1. Resize Search Box 0.0.6
      2. Customize Google 0.28
      3. Bookmark Backup 0.3.3
      4. Tiny URL Creator 1.0
      5. Drag to Tab 0.2
      6. IE View 1.2.5

I use all of them every day, and find IE View to be most helpful when viewing how pages will look in IE, or, on the rare occasion when Firefox won’t display a page correctly.

      Hi Tony:
Nice list. I want to try out many of these. Two extensions I used to have & like no longer seem available. Double click tab header to close & automatic reload every X minutes don’t seem available. Here’s my list:

      extension description
Ai RoboForm Toolbar 6.4.0 For filling in forms automatically; I have the paid version; well worth it.
IE View 1.2.4 View page in IE
All-in-one-sidebar 0.5.5 Allows you to view downloads, extensions, recent pages, bookmarks, etc. from a side bar.
Locate in bookmark folders 0.2.1 This is to search bookmarks, but I honestly haven

        Hi Phil

There is no homepage for SessionSaver, instead there is a MozillaZine Knowledge Base article on SessionSaver. The next version of Tab Mix Plus will incorporate most of the SessionSaver features.

As for the drag & drop feature of miniT, Tab Mix Plus has incorporated this feature from the miniT extension. In addition, one of the new features of Firefox 1.5 is the ability to drag & drop tabs.

I loved the Reload every X minute extension. Last year during the Ontario Curling Association playdowns, I was refreshing the results page every 20 minutes manually, until I found the extension.

I’ll have to do some google assisted searching for that now I imagine.

I like these two additional extensions:
Scrapbook – Allows for easy page captures that are viewed in the Sidebar
NoScript. – Gives complete control over what JavaScript to display on any given site

I’m surprised that no one has mentioned “Forecast Fox” and “Bug me not”

Forecastfox places weather icons at the bottom-right of your browser window. BugmeNot helps you avoid hassles with “free registration required” sites, by making it’s servioce available from the right click menu

These should both be available from the “get more extensions” page.

for me the gratest firefox extension of all time is paste and go (Paste and Go extension) not sure why this is not included in the firefox builds themselves.

I’ve been playing with one called “Stumble” that puts a button on your bar that serves you a random “cool” web site from a lits of you interests.

        Pretty fun.

      Hi Tony,

I was trying to solve my problem loading some pages in IE that won’t work in FF and I see that you have IE View listed in your group of extensions. I was checking out the site and the information there says it doesn’t get along well with TabMix Plus. Have you had any trouble with the two of these causing each other problems? I have TabMix Plus installed and like it. I don’t want to give myself grief by installing something that doesn’t work with it?

Thank you for any opinion you can offer about this.

        Hi Skitterbug

I was not aware of any compatibility problems with Tab Mix Plus and IE View, It is not included in the list of extensions that are known to have compatibility issues with Tab Mix Plus. The only extension that I have heard of having problems with IE View is TabBrowser Extensions.

I no longer use IE View but when I did I had no problems using those 2 extensions. I now use one of the extensions that you mentioned in this thread, Launchy 4.1.0

        • #989264

I must be a doh today because I had forgotten all about Launchy even though I had included it in my earlier post! I had it in my older version of FF but forgot to put it in the new one.

So I was hunting along trying to find something to view IE with and I found IE View but it said the following: Recent IE View versions don’t get along well with the TabBrowser Extensions package. Unfortunately, many extensions do not get along well with TBE. For more information, see the FAQ for information on disabling Always-View-in-IE. So that is what brought my question to the thread.

I’ll solve my problem be installing Launchy and all will be will in Skitterland! Thanks for “thunking” me on the head! I need it sometimes to get me going in the right direction!! grin

I am a bit late to this party but I thought I would add to the list.

See Tony’s comments in post 529,549 re Adblock.

        • #990144

There has been a new version of Adblock released since those comments, version 0.5.2.056 was released on 29th November and is listed as compatible with Firefox 1.5

          • #990206

Hey, I like the little extra Adblock Plus did! I looked at my extensions to see what version I currently had and there was a little note just under the Adblock extension entry that said there was a newer update available. So I clicked on the update command and zip – I went from 0.5.10 to 0.5.11 just like that! Easy and Sweet! thumbup

            • #990208

That is part of the new update feature of the extension manager. For any extension where an update is available you get the Update button next to the extension name. If there are more than 1 update available, you get the Update buttons and a dialog offering to install all available updates.

            • #990251

Thanks for pointing this new feature out! I thought it was just the Adblock Plus extension that did this. Now I know what to watch for – I just need to open my Extension manager a little more often!
