Firefox, Chrome Script problems

I use Firefox exclusively as my browser. I update per Woody’s recommendations.
I use iGoogle as my homepage.
I use MS Security Essentials and Secunia PSI as my security programs.

1) When I get a Firefox hang up, 9 times out of 10 the error message reads “A script has stopped working… http:google/chrome/area utilities…” this is abbreviated because I haven’t written down the full info. The only way out of this is to kill the power.
I have not ‘knowingly’ downloaded Chrome. If it wasn’t in the Windows updates, I may have applied the Chrome patches when I have updated my homepage from their prompts.
This problem has only appeared in the last 6 months or so. :confused:

What can I do to stop and/or correct this?

Have you tried to completely clean out all browser history and cookies. I would do this first and see if it helps with your problem.

By the way Secunia PSI is not typically considered a security app. It is an app that shows out of date software on your PC by comparing the version on your PC with known up to date versions in their data base. Another source for this is FileHippo. Simply install the Update Checker (upper right hand corner of window). I have found each will find updates the other sometimes misses.

First, the error message is NOT referring to the Google Chrome browser. I believe that “chrome” is referring to the “look and feel” of . It is either one of the web pages you have open, or possibly a Firefox extension/Theme you have installed.

You could have a conflict with an add-on. If the problem is frequent, then it would be worth trying Firefox’s Safe Mode; there should be an entry for it on the Start menu. However, do not “reset” your settings unless you get desperate, just try running without add-ons.

If the problem is very intermittent, can you find a pattern? Usually Firefox will attempt to reload the windows and tabs you had open when you restart after a crash, so this would be a reminder of where you were when it happened.
