    Hello everyone!

First time poster. I have been having a problem with Firefox 3.6.8 and it’s previous version this last week. If I’m on eBay and I click on “Enlarge” for a picture of an item, nothing happens. It used to open up either another window or a new tab (can’t remember which) to show the enlarged picture but now nothing happens and sometimes FF freezes and it won’t shut down so I have to use Windows Task Manager to End Process. This problem happened with the previous version so I upgraded, thinking that would solve the problem but it didn’t. I even downloaded version 3.5.x and it’s still happening. I completely uninstalled FF, including my profile (which I backup onto a thumbdrive), shut down computer, waited 5 minutes, turned it back on, reinstalled FF 3.6.8 and it’s still happening. There is another website this happens to but it’s a gov’t password-security website that I can’t give out because it’s a long process to get to the part where it’s doing this too. I have had to resort to using IE for the gov’t website as it’s part of my business but I’d rather use FF.

    Any suggestions?
I thank you in advance for any and all posts.
    Have a great day!
It’s very smokey in my neck of the woods.

I can’t duplicate your problem with Firefox 3.5.11 on WindowsXP SP3.
I just tried this ebay item: Some software
Firefox gave me a separate window when I clicked “enlarge”.

Hello – I use FF 3.6.8 – You might want to check your Tabs Options. Here are mine …..

Also, on any Firefox page you can use Ctrl and + to enlarge. Hold Ctrl key and press + key several times to make it larger and larger.

Do you have any pop-up blockers outside of Firefox that might be suppressing the eBay pop-up window? Some security suites also install a toolbar into Firefox. In the past, McAfee’s had a reputation for switching your pop-up settings.

Sorry it took me a while to respond. I thought I was going to get emails to my question from the lounge but had to sign back in.

Okay, so I made changes as noted. I uninstalled AVG’s & ZoneAlarm’s toolbars, restarted FF and the problem is still there. When you hover over “Enlarge” on a pic in eBay, you can see it says “javascript:;”. Could Javascript be the problem? Just now I went up to Tools, and clicked on Java Console and nothing happened. Then I clicked on Error Console and a pop-up box came up which listed a bunch of errors. I went to update Java through Add-Ons but it’s up to date.

      Any other suggestions?
I thank everyone again for their help. This is a weird problem but started happening in the last 2 weeks now.

Go to http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp and click on Verify java version to see if you have the latest version of Java installed.

Okay, I was looking further in this forum and it appears somebody else has the exact same problem. Here is the link to the thread: http://bro.ws/777220LWS

So I downloaded Revouninstaller, installed & ran it only uninstalling FF. It found a bunch of registry keys that were left behind (no surprise, does any software program actually completely remove itself after uninstalling?), deleted them, downloaded FF 3.6.8, reinstalled it, restored a backup of my bookmarks (way too many to lose), then went to eBay and tried to enlarge a picture. It still happened. Now I’m thinking, “this it totally ridiculous!”. Then I disabled AVG Security Toolbar, AVG Safe Search, and ZoneAlarm’s Toolbar and now I can enlarge pictures in eBay!!!!! Yay! I also noticed in my Add-Ons, Extensions, it lists Java Quick Starter instead of a million Java’s. Don’t know if this was the problem but now it seems it had something to do with my extra toolbars, which again is weird cuz they worked fine before. Gotta love technology!

So if anybody else is having this problem, try what I did and hopefully it will work for you.

I do want to say thank you to those who made suggestions. Every little bit helps and it seemed bits of everything worked, in this case.

Have a great rest of the day!

The Java runtime is not used to run JavaScript scripts. Firefox runs those itself. Most likely, Java is not the issue here.

It sounds as though perhaps the security add-ons were blocking the pop-up. You should be able to tweak their settings from Tools > Add-ons > Extensions or from a button on the respective bar.

again compatibility issues with websites some features of websites can be well shown or worked on some certain browsers. i’m not so sure with ebay if it’s compatible with that versions of firefox. perhaps you may want to try disabling addons as suggested. try chrome or iron if it workeds well.
