I am still learning the 2007 of Word and having difficulty finding information about an existing style. I wanted to find out number format information for a style that used bullets (or any numbering style). In past versions of Word, I could get to the Modify Style dialog box. No problem. I got there.

However, when I click Format, and then click Numbering, the information shown seems to default to the Numbering tab and have the top item selected, which looks nothing like my style, which is bulleted. How do I see things like the bullet chosen, whether there is a tab following the bullet or spaces, etc.?

Or for a style with a multilevel list formatting, how do I see all that information?

    Thanks!!

From the Home tab, click on the arrow below Change Styles, then click on the Manage Styles button at the bottom right of the Styles dialog box.

All that does is get me to a place where I can open the Modify Styles dialog box. I still find when I get to that box if I click Format and then Numbering that it does not show my current settings.

        Troy,
In the “Styles” dialog box, at the bottom, click the “Style Inspector” icon (in the middle with the magnifying glass) to see what formatting is applied to the current style. Also, making sure the ruler is shown can give you a quick indication of margins and tab settings.

      Good to know, Tom!!

I guess what I am going to say next is just a gripe, but here goes. If you are in the Modify Style dialog box, and click Format and then click Font, it shows the current font selections for the style. If you click Format and Paragraph, it shows you the current paragraph settings for the style. Etc. Therefore, it stands to reason that if you go to Format and Numbering, it would show your current settings.

It would be especially beneficial to do so if you wanted to make a small change to the numbering of a style. As it is now, if you wanted to make such a change you would have to start from scratch and hope you got all the characteristics back in that you wanted to make the small change.

OK. Enough of my griping. Thanks everyone for the help!!
