In a workbook that contains formulas to many linked spreadsheets, how can a user find the specific cell with the link and then amend/delete that link as appropriate? (without looking in each cell of each spreadsheet)

Is there a find feature that can be used here?

The only way I can think at present would be to format the cell with the linked formula at the time of creation. However this is not possible where you inherit a workbook from somewhere else.

I look forward to a response.

    Thanks

Download FINDLINK.ZIP from the Excel MVP page listed below.

      Hi,

One simple way, if you know the name of the link (which you can get via Edit|Links), is to do a ‘Find’ for that string. Excel will take you to each linked cell on the active sheet in turn for editing, without you having to check all cells.

      Cheers

A link to another workbook contains the filename in square brackets, so if you don’t know the exact link, then you can try Edit Find for “[” or for “]” and get to the cell that contains the link.
(It doesn’t seem to work quite so easily if the link is within a chart – I don’t know how to do that yet.)

Links can live in many objects. That is why FINDLINK (which I mentioned earlier in this thread) has been made available by Bill Manville.

        It searches:

        – commandbutons
        – any shape on a worksheet (including charts and the objects on them)
        – dialog sheets
        – names
        – all cells

and whatever else I might have forgotten smile.
Also a very nice utility if you’re looking for a specific string anywhere in a workbook.
