A wagon maker and a farmer met in the valley on Christmas day. It was a good time to rest as their friend lived in a new town built upon a great hill of stone which they still had to climb. They wanted to give her a little bear as a gift.

What is the names of the wagon maker, the farmer, the friend, the little bear and the town?

Am I assuming that as Vally is spelt wrong, the names are hidden in the text.

If so,I reckon one of them was called Keran

        • #942108

Sorry Jezza. Your assumption is incorrect.

PS: I edited the mistake so it is now correctly spelt! (Tx)

Am I on the right lines?

Wagon maker – Waggoner; Little bear – Ursula; Farmer – Ackerman; Friend – Unwin

You must be on the right track Bandido. Although you only got one correct, I must congratulate you!!! The little bear now has a name!

          • #942395

Would the little girl be Goldilocks

            • #942404

              nope

PS: Who said she’s little…she may be a BIIIG mama too!

PPS: Maybe you guys should start asking Bandido how he is scoring all the points! (He obviously has a way of finding the names!!!)

Ursa Major, perhaps better than any other group of stars, shows that just about any shape one wants to imagine can be assigned to the constellation–a plow, wagon, coffin, bear, or even a reindeer, as the people of Lapland imagined the constellation.

I thought Ursula (little bear) and Ursa major (Big Bear) hence Goldilocks

Or am I looking for an alternative which I KNOW you like innocent

            • #942415

I don’t think it’s me that is finding the alternatives here…. I find it quite interesting that you have related some items to star constellations, but no…nothing about this puzzle is in the stars!

CLUE: There are in fact 12 hidden names in this puzzle, and all are found using the same routine! If you can find one, you can find all 12!

(I thought I’d just start it off by asking for the obvious names – the people, town and animal names!)

              Good luck with the clue!

        2nd attempt:

Wagon maker – Wayne; Town – Houston or Clinton; Farmer – George; Friend – Alvin

        • #942402

You have the wagon maker and the farmers name Bandido….now you’re on a roll! Unfortunately Alvin is not a girls name!

      • #942418

Was the little bear called Ted or Teddy ?

        Third time lucky:

Town – Newton; Friend – Edwina

              See here!

              Hi Lyra,
If you open the link and choose the search for meaning option in the search feature, you can type little bear (for instance), and Ursula will come up!

              It’s all in the name!
              cheers
