Another poster mention the problem finding the line text cursor (|) in a large field of text as in a Word document. Microsoft added a function to help locate the text cursor called the Text Cursor Indicator which works in all text fields displayed in Windows (including this text box in my browser). Below are my instructions of how to turn on and adjust this function. This may not be for everybody and may feel weird at first, but over time it can become a really handy thing to have turned on.
Find the Flashing | Beam Text Cursor Faster
What
Instructions to turn on and adjust the Text Cursor Indicator in Windows 10.
Why
Text entry or editing in any text field in Windows or any app running in Windows occurs exactly where the text cursor (the flashing | beam) is in the text field so you must be sure that the text cursor is where you want the text entered or edited before entering or editing. Thus you must first find the text cursor is in the text field and locating that fine line flashing | beam in a large text field or placing it in the correct place of a small text field can be a challenge to some users. If you find it hard to locate that flashing | beam cursor in any text filed in Windows you can turn on the Text Cursor Indicator and adjust its size and color to suit your needs. The Text Cursor Indicator will place a colored fan shaped icon at the top and bottom of the flashing | beam which you can select the color and size of these icons, thus making it easy to locate within a text field. The following explains how.
How
o Open a Run box (WinKey + R) and enter ms-settings:easeofaccess-mouse and press the Enter key. This will open the Settings window for Mouse in the Ease of Access section.
o In the left pane select Text Cursor which will display that page of settings in the right pane.
o Under Use text cursor indicator click the switch to turn it on.
o Below the switch use the slider scale to select the size of the icons you want.
o Below the size scale select the color you want for the icons.
o Close the settings when finished.
Comments
The Text Cursor Indicator will work in nearly all parts of Windows and the apps running in Windows such as the Word, Notepad, Command prompt, Registry Editor, and File Explorer.
