Film back light for scanner

Has any one found a third party “back light” for scanning film on a flat bed scanner?

I have one that came with my HP 4670, BUT, it is sized for 35 MM film and slides only. We have a bunch of the older Kodak 126 film.

Unfortunately, no… I’ve been hunting for one for several years. There are directions on the Web for how to make a cardboard dongle that accomplishes this, but the location is long lost. Please let me know if you find anything worth trying. Maybe with Jezza’s inventiveness, your input, and my mechanical skills, a solution can be found.

I’m assuming that’d be quite an expensive conference…..Liberty, you might make out better than Dave or Jezza, since you’re more equidistant than either of them….

Dave, sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I have put a little schematic together in the attached zip file as a word document. I have not put measurements to it but if you need a challenge this scanner add on can be quite simple to accomplish.

You will need some cardboard, aluminium foil, glue and scissors….oh yes and a ruler.

If I remember rightly a 126 film has a 28mmx28mm plate so the black square would be the dimensions you can work from.

You will basically be making a triangular “sandwich” holder, right angled with 45 degree alternate angles. One side of the card should be covered in with the shiny side of kitchen aluminium foil ( Don’t be too worried if it is not completely reflective as the foil just needs to bounce back light. It is is too shiny you will get bright spots on the returned scan. All joins, once glued should be further covered from the outside with black or opaque tape to stop light escaping.

I have seen similar light boxes to the one I have designed and work perfectly well on flat bed scanners. Have fun

Just a tip regarding your post with the URL address.

A mod would have to edit your post, I can’t do it but if you want to have a “clickable” link to another address,
see HansV’s post 228,658 on how to do this. It makes it much more convenient to just click the link than having to copy it and then try it.
