I have noticed that a Word ’97 document file with a inserted Picture that was in JPEG format is much larger than a similar Word XP document with the same JPEG picture file. I thought that Word XP might just be linking to the Picture and taking less memory. As the original JPEG file was on Network, I copied the Word 2002 file to my local hard drive, unplugged the Network and loaded the Word 2002 file into Word 2002 sort of expecting to see no picture. I was wrong, the picture appeared normally.
A quick explanation of why this happens would be appreciated.
