File menu gone (IE 6 XP SP-1)

OK, here’s a weird one. The File menu has disappeared from my Explorer window, gone, vanished. Any ideas how to get it back? My guess is that something got mangled in the registry, but I have no idea what it might be.

OK, I can answer my own question. Dinking around in the registry I found the key HKCUSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPoliciesExplorer had a value named NoFileMenu set to 1. I don’t know how this got there (I know I must have done it) but setting it to 0 fixed the problem.

I don’t think and have seen a lot of similar cases that you must have done it. I think it’s possible that other programs, installations, ect. could have done it. We have a coupld problems going on now on other threads whose symptoms can be caused by a similar change in a registry value.
