Two MS admin accounts on desktop pc at 21H1.
It’s happened before at earlier ver but checking today saw backups for both users were last run on Aug 28.
Backups are to USB attached HDD. No space issues.
Settings for backup are defaults ie Hourly and Keep forever.

I just do Backup now, change nothing else and things seem fine until, like today.

Why doesn’t File History tell you it can’t run and why”

Any ideas other than don’t trust windows and use something else?

      PFC,

Do you have the two userids set to backup to the same folder?

I had tried that (although with different machines) on my NAS and it didn’t work. Setting them each to a different folder solved the problem.

thanks RG, I closed this because it was old and since I’m moving things to windows 11 I’ll look at data backup later, File History seems to have gone further away there. I know it can still be

        used via control panel.

While using FH users were getting backed up to their own folders.

      PFC,

You can use File History from the Settings Menu just type File History into the search. Click on the response then the settings gear icon.

Microsoft removed the File History option from the Settings app in Windows 11. So, you can only access it from the control panel.

did you try what RG suggested? It seems to lead to File History

What appears when you search within Settings for File History? Could you attach a screenshot?

I didn’t understand “Click on the response then the settings gear icon.”

For most Windows 11 users, File History disappeared from Settings nearly three years ago.

I have both W11, Pro and Home.
Both eventually take you to control panel File History for setup,
you might as well start from control panel.

I was more interested in the version, 22H2 or 23H2, than the edition, Pro or Home.

        • #2654148

          23H2 on both
