      Just a quick addition here.

As I understand it, Access 2002 can save in both Access 2000 and Access 2002 mode.

Is the file format for Access 2002 the same as Access 2000? What about the other apps?

      • #531768

Yes and no. The file formats for all Office XP applications are the same as their Office2000 counterparts, EXCEPT for Access. However, Access2002 does have an Access2000 compatibility mode, which lets it work seamlessly with native Access2000 databases (so they can be shared with users who still have Access2000). This compatibility mode is actually the default for Access2002.

I apologize if this question has been previously addressed, but can the new properties and events that I’ve heard about in Access 2002 be used with the Access 2000 file format?

          Thanks smile

Yes, I believe you can create a database that uses all the new functionality of Access2002 and still use the Access2000 database format. However, if someone who only has Access2000 hits that part of your code, they will get an error. Ken Getz addresses this in recent issue of Access/VBA/SQL Advisor.
