• Fields to Forms (MSO 2003)

Looking to add ‘Categories’ to the ‘Message’ form, I went ot “Design a Form”.

Except, when I add the ‘Categories field the whole side of the form is taken up, which I certainly don’t want. It doesn’t seem that I can size this blank area.

I look in the “Using Office 2003” (the only Office 2003 book you need), but didn’t seem to find what I was looking for in forms design.

    Anybody got a pointer.

Hi Chuck… Looks like you chose the Form root. When in the design mode of the message form (select the message form when going into design), select the Categories field and drag it to the bottom-right corner of the message form. It will, most likely attach to the right-side of the message box. While both the label and text box are selected, move it down to the bottom of the window. Then, resize the message box both horizontally and vertically to fit above the categories box.

Choosing the form root is OK, but realize that you need to find a way to replace the default message form with this new one… I have never attempted this but, instead, placed an icon from VBA to invoke the new form that I have created….

Hope this helped a bit… trish

        Trish:

The attached is actually an “oft” file, showing txt to send…

I did , I thought, as you said, but look at the whole right side gone…

I will have to rename it when I get it right, as you said…

Hi Chuck… the attachment is not viewable (Woody’s does not accept .oft attachments). I suggest that you do not save the attachment as an .oft but, instead, create another form. You can do this by choosing Tools, Design a Form. Select the Message form from the Standard Forms Library. Edit the form as previously mentioned… add the categories field to the bottom-right corner of the form then resize the message box as required. After you have completed the form, select the first icon on the 3rd toolbar, Publish Form. It will prompt you to save the form in an Outlook library – choose Personal Forms Library and name the form accordingly. It will most likely prompt you to ‘Save Form Definition…’, choose YES to this prompt.

If you want to use the form, choose the New drop-down (from File menu or icon) and then select Choose Form. From there, select the Personal Forms Library from the drop-down and select the form you created. This is where the VBA will come in handy and do all this work for you in the simple click of an icon… here’s the MSDN site on Outlook forms (hope it helps more)… MSDN Outlook Forms

            Trish:

The file I attached as a text file previously is a form. I just now saved the attachment to my desktop, renamed the extension to ‘oft’ and it opened right up…

The fix for my problem is undoubtedly simple, as creating the problem is just that, and repeatable too, so it’s got to be something I’m just missing somewhere…

            Trish:

I’m sorry… I just found the one part of my problem, and it seems OK now… now I just need to change the field I put in so that it’s a dropdown(?) so that I’ll be able to pick categories, not guess and type…

            Ill take a look…

            Thanks,
            Chuck

            Trish:

            O-K.

Now… I’got the right field in the design “Categories…” so that the “push-button” shows up and calls up the list.

It does NT appear on the recipient’s version, only on the sender’s copy, right? ‘Cause that seem to be what happened when I sent it to myself.

That (hopefully) being the case, is there a way to have the fields that you (I) picked show up (detail “gits, friends, etc.) along with the “push-button field, and not have that show in the recipient’s copy either?

            Regards,
            Chuck

It depends… I have not yet figured out this particular feature (bug)! My experience has been unsuccessful with fields that I manually placed on the fields for anyone I send the form to – in other words – they are unable to view my customized fields; however, I witnessed a case wherein someone had been successful, yet, had little experience with forms… it was not anyone I could troubleshoot with. If you want, you can send your form to me and I will see if I can view your fields.

Attach it here or send it where?

Hi Chuck… the categories do not show on the form itself; however, as you indicated, it does show under View/Options. This would be the case for anyone that places categories… whether other user’s are that curious or knowledgeable to find your set categories is another topic! Glad to see the form works for you… enjoy! trish
