    Wondering if anyone can tell me how to UNinstall Firefox if it’s not on the Add/Remove Programs list in Control Panel? (XP Home) I wanted to install FF 2.0 but the main reason it’s acting weird — starting up all by itself and/or spawning new tabs ad infinitum. Rather than trying to figure that part out, I thought I’d just uninstall it. Why on earth is it not on the list? Any suggestions? Can I just delete the FF folder? I’d like it to keep my preferences etc if possible. thanks for the help. Callie

      Are you sure it’s not listed as MOZILLA Firefox in the add/remove programs list?

      Look in Add or Remove Programs

      Spawning new tabs could be the result of a page that tries to spawn new windows if you have ticked the box to direct new windows to tabs instead. The script might “try again” if it doesn’t find the window. If you post the URL of the page that does this, we can sniff around and see what’s going on. If it happens regardless of the site, perhaps one of your extensions is the problem?

        Thanks for all the suggestions. No, it’s not listed anywhere in Add/Remove Programs, and it doesn’t have its own Uninstall that I can find. The new tabs happen on different pages with no warnings AND FF even starts up by itself so it doesn’t seem like extensions. It’s only on my laptop. I thought about spyware etc but it’s been scanned by several different programs and comes up clean. I’m hoping that if I can get it off and then install 2.0….

          Sounds quite strange. If you haven’t already, it may be worth installing and running CCleaner (see post 616,137 for the latest release). This has an additional add/remove programs utility built into it which might help; it can also scan for missing program files and and try to correct the problem.

          Another possibility (slightly convoluted) is to download the FF1.5* installation file and run it again. It should have an option to repair your current installation. If that runs successfully, you should then have the option to remove it in “Add/Remove programs”.

      You should be able to locate the uninstall utility in Firefox Folder { …Program FilesMozilla Firefoxuninstalluninstall.exe }
      or equivalent.

        Yup, silly me. I finally thought to look in the Mozilla folder. Not only was there an Uninstall.exe, it left all my preferences/settings so when I installed 2.0 everything was there. I haven’t had time to see if that cured the spawning problem though. If not, I’ll get some more investigatory power involved…. Thanks, Callie

          Darn, FF 2.0 is still doing it. I have an RSS feed and I wondered if that might be what’s triggering it — would explain why it happens no matter what page I’m on. And Yes, that’s an extension, which was already mentioned, thanks, as a possible cause of the trouble. Just have to get back and disable that to see….. Thanks for all the help. Callie
