I recently clean installed XP with the primary purpose being to move the Documents and Settings folder to my D drive and secondly to hopefully clear up some minor irritants in XP. All went well, but those irritants are still there. For example: sometimes the tool tips for the systray icons pop up behind the task bar, making them unreadable. A minor annoyance, I know, but how do I go about providing feedback to MS for issues such as this? BTW, if anyone has a fix for this I’d appreciate hearing about it.

    Cheers,

Not a fix but a work around without rebooting. I just reset the taskbar properties by unchecking and rechecking the same item and then hit apply. Usually works for me.

Thanks, hlewton, I’ll give your work around a try the next time my tool tips decide to play hide-and-seek. I’m somewhat relieved to see I’m not the only one afflicted with this annoyance.

        Cheers,

Yes, isn’t that terrible that MS makes the old saying “misery loves company” come back to life in this day and age?

Windows XP’s balloon tips can be annoying. Their behavior is erratic, and often they pop up and get in the way. You can easily turn off balloon tips by following these steps:

            1. Launch regedit.
            2. Open HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerAdvanced.
            3. Create a new DWORD value called EnableBalloonTips.
            4. Give the entry a value of 0 to disable the tips and a value of 1 to turn them back on.

Thanks, sinjin, but I do have balloon tips off. My post referred to regular tool tips.

              Cheers,
