• Feedback Response Form (XP)

My web site http://www.grainge.org has a feedback form that I have been able to attach to my style sheet so that the appearance is in line with the rest of the site.
The page was produced with FrontPage and relies on extensions on the server. I would now like to customise the form that displays after Submit has been clicked. I know I could substute my own page but that would not give the user confirmation of the information submitted, I don’t want to change the functionality of the response form, just the appearance.
Can someone please point me in the right direction for doing this, assuming it is possible.
    Many thanks.

I do not have FP XP in front of me., but I do know it is possible to confirm the information the user has submitted by using Confirmation Fields, (in FP 2K, use Insert, Component, Confirmation Field). The tricky part here is you must use the exact spelling and case for the field from the form. Place the confirmation field in your response page and it will reflect the information submitted by the user.

      Cheers

Thank you so much. I have now got the form and response working as I want except one niggling thing.
If the user enters more than one paragraph in the Information field (which is a text area) in the response form the paragraphs get lost. It all ends up as one paragraph.
Do you know how to retain the paragraphs please as I have poked around and cannot fix it so far?
To see what I mean, go to http://www.grainge.org and click on Feedback and enter more than one paragraph under Enter Information Here. You can leave the other fields blank. Click Submit and you will see what I mean.
Hope you can help again and thanks.

I don’t think that there is a way to do what you want in FP.

If you View>Source on the page, you can see that the data is playing back correctly

I will have a look at give it a try but it will be a few days. Many thanks for the research and I’ll post back either way.

Got to try it sooner than I expected but that’s the good news!

The nearest line to that described is
              webbot bot=”ConfirmationField” S-Field=”Information”

              I tried
              webbot bot=”ConfirmationField” S-Field=”Information” S-format=”html/pre” and

              webbot bot=”ConfirmationField” S-Field=”Information”; S-format=”html/pre” and

webbot bot=”ConfirmationField” S -format=”html/pre” -Field=”Information” S-format=”html/pre” and perhaps a few more but could not get anything to work.

Unless you can see what I am doing wrong in this line, I conclude the method is only for discussion webs for which it was written.

Thanks anyway. I do appreciate your research.

Hmm! I looked back through the posts and enclosed the line

              webbot bot=”ConfirmationField” S-Field=”Information”

              in

               tags as suggested by jscher.

That does indeed preserve the paragraphs but each one is then on one line stretching a zillion miles across the screen and beyond!

I tried putting that in a table hoping that would force the text to wrap but instead the table stretches!

It sort of feels as if we are just another tweak away so if anyone does have any ideas?

I guess if I had written more lengthy feedback I would have noticed that. Hmmm… Where does this feedback go, other than the confirmation page? I’m thinking that you could use an onSubmit event handler and a bit of JavaScript to reformat the contents of the TextArea with tags, etc. But if this would mess up the database or other storage, then never mind.

              Hi Jefferson
The feedback goes to the response form and to an html page where I can pick up the feedback. The page I pick up is formatted correctly, annoyingly, but I think I will have to give up on letting the user see the response correctly. I am familiar with using javascript in html pages but not writing it.
So close and so far. From various sites I have seen this has emerged as a regular problem.
Thanks to you and everyone for helping.
