On a recent trip to the Farmer’s Market, I happened upon a vendor who was pricing his fruits and vegetables by the each rather than by the pound. I purchased an assortment of apples, oranges, plums, figs, tomatoes and cherries. I can tell you that one cherry and one orange cost exactly the same as one fig. From the following clues, can you determine the individual prices for each item?
- Three apples and two tomatoes cost 1.21
- Three oranges and two apples cost 0.97
- One of each item cost 1.17
- Two tomatoes and two figs cost 0.94
- One fig, one plum and one orange cost 0.64
- Two plums, two tomatoes and one apple cost 1.27
- Six cherries, 3 plums and 4 figs cost 1.86
- There were no discounts for multiple items and nothing was free!
- Tomatoes are more expensive than apples and apples cost more than oranges.
Warning! Made this one up in less than 5 minutes. Was not tested for the possibility of multiple solutions or solvability. I do have a solution that works.
