I didn’t read your link, but FB Mess was originally released for Win7 in 2011, and closed down in 2014. I don’t think it appeared since then, until now.

        Lugh.

The link is for Microsoft Store – for the Windows 10 app.

No way would I let any Facebook-controlled app on any device of mine.  (The only reason I have a Facebook account at all is that it’s the easiest way to stay in touch with relatives in other parts of the country.  I have a whole six FB friends and less than a dozen Pages that I Like or Follow.)

Smart people use Wire (developed by former Skype/Microsoft folks) these days.

I trust facebook as much I trust microsoft. I won’t allow their cookies on my computer.

an adapted hostfile certainly helps avoidance, no cookies to worry about.

They already have Messenger for Windows 10 as a UWP app. What Facebook should probably do is make a PWA app for Messenger, rather than insisting on having another .exe file on my computer.

As for me, meh. Why would I install a program to do what I can already do in my web browser? I don’t use Messenger that much, only to chat with friends that don’t use anything else, and the website works just fine with no issues whatsoever. If I’m on the go, I use Android, so the Android app is for me, not Windows. And this’ll only hold Windows 7 users for just a bit longer, most of which probably aren’t going to even bother with it if they’re resisting Windows 10 for the same reasons.
