I read online that Apple offers a way to extend AppleCare+ for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch after it expires (within a timeframe). Does Apple offer this for Macs as well? I’d be willing to extend it for my iMac Pro to protect my investment.

    Thanks!

Nathan: Having looked at several articles and the commentaries in discussion forums on the Web published during the last 30 days, I find that this may be the general consensus: there is no extension of AppleCare+ for Macs. Only things that begin in “i” can get extensions beyond three years, except for the iMac, that counts as just another ‘Mac’, so it doesn’t.

I think that the author’s analysis and the readers’ comments in the following article might be also of some interest to those visiting this thread. It is mostly about what you get with AppleCare+ that you don’t get without it; and on whether, comparing costs, it is worth paying for it plus the discounted repairs, or paying the full price of the repairs without paying for it.

That’s what it seemed to be as well when I did my research. Too bad as I would have gone for it for at least a couple of more years to maximize the investment I made in this machine. I have a local repair shop who can handle repairs, but I’m not sure if the T2 chip adds an issue to it. I’ll have to ask them.

SquareTrade used to be the company I’d go to for extending warranties. Allstate bought ’em you just gotta shop more thoughfully.

I have always bought the extended guarantee with every computer I’ve had, but never been in need of using it. In the case of my current Mac, the extended three-year guarantee run out in June of last year.

It surely has helped that I rarely need to take a computer (always a laptop) away from home. People who need to take it to work or while on travel probably may benefit from the extended guarantee much more than someone like me.

These two articles discuss the pros and cons of buying an extended AppleCare+ guarantee:

I’ve had good luck with Mac desktops at the moment. Had hardware issues with MacBook Pros, mainly by making the mistake of getting them right after they were first released and not waiting until the kinks were ironed out.

I do always recommend AppleCare+ with every Mac purchase. I just wish Apple offered the ability to extend it at least a couple more years after it expires, especially with high-end Macs such as my iMac Pro, plus coupled with the fact that the T2 chip could make third party repairs harder.
