• Exporting PDF to RTF

    Hi,

Maybe it’s just me that believed obvious that this couldn’t be done, but just recently I was wandering through Acrobat 5’s menues and came up with File | Batch Processing | Save All as RTF, which, if the document isn’t protected, will export a [number of] PDF to RTF. I thought I’d share the news here as I’d never heard of this before.

I think you mean, version 5 of the Acrobat Reader and not Acrobat, which is the full product.

Now check out version 6 of the Reader and let us know what you find there evilgrin

BUT, make sure you uninstall version 5 before installing version 6.

        Hey Dave,

I know Acrobat is the full product, and I did mean Acrobat. I don’t think Adobe would make this option available for AR 5.0 users (nor for AR 6.0 ones), but the truth is I don’t know.
If you tell me that the tip was something new, I’ll volunteer for the Acrobat Users R&D Team right away grin.

Reader 5 has File > Export Document to Text, which, while not as good as RTF, is a heck of a lot better than copy and paste! Thanks for starting this thread; I never would have noticed that otherwise.

Que? What version of Reader? I’ve got “5.0.5 24/09/01” (from Help|About..) and the following is all I have on the File menu.

I remember using Acrobat 4.0 along with AR 5.0 at work, and honestly, I don’t recall that Export to Text feature either. I just hated the few options AR 5 would show under the File menu (as compared to Acrobat 4 – don’t even think of batch functionality), so if it had been there it woulda been quite perceptible.
Maybe Jeff’s release took place sometime between AR 5.0 and AR 6.0 and we never got to know smile

Reader 5.1, I guess I should have said. (P.S. Anyone want to get me this camera?)

        Why?

Asks Keith who installed 6 over 5 on his home machine.

(Actually, thinking about it now, the install was a bit strange, the install package seemed to take forever to unzip all the components).

          Keith,
Some machines have been known to have nothing but problems with the File associations mostly with the internet links.
It has been fool proof by doing the unistall.

            Dave,

It’s not always that simple. My Adobe 6 kit is an upgrade, and it will only install over the previous version. It claims that you just need to enter your old license key but won’t accept the one I have – so upgrade installation is what I had to do.

              Stuart,
We were talking about the version 6 of Adobe READER, not the FULL product Adobe Acrobat.

Note: The reader is now Adobe Reader and NOT Adobe Acrobat Reader.

So I’ve got hold of the wrong end of the stick AGAIN!

I heard the derivation of that phrase recently and it’s not even suitable for Scuttlebut
