    Hi there,

I’ve got an Access 2007 report that includes a couple of the new Memo Rich Text fields. Within these fields, there is some plain and itilicised text: eg. Composer arr. Arranger: Name of piece. When exporting to Word RTF format, the formatting in the Rich Text field is not being retained in the document. Has anyone come across this hurdle before, and if so, is there a way around it?

    Many thanks.

I don’t know the way around this, but it is not something I have looked in to.

The new Rich Text in Access 2007 is not really Rich Text, but just HTML.

I don’t know whether this would interest you but there are lots of html to rtf converters available.

Search for “convert html rtf” at Google , and lots of things come up, but I have not used them.

Thanks for you suggestions. Unfortunately, I don’t think an HTML to RTF conversion will work – I have tried exporting the report to HTML, and even there the changes in font type are not being carried over into the HTML document!

Why are you sending it to Word? Exporting reports to rtf has never been very good, so for most purposes pdf is a better option. Now that it is built into Access 2007, it is even more attractive.
But if you need to be able to edit the result, then pdf is much more restricted.

I’m sending the report to Word because I need to be able to do some layout editing which I don’t think can always be achieved in an Access report. This report is a catalogue for a music publisher, who has specified various criteria regarding the layout: for example, repeating the composer’s name if we are going from a right to a left page, keeping a group of pieces together on one page if there are only two or three pieces before spilling over onto the next page, etc. etc. Ideally, I would rather achieve all formatting in the Access report…

            Thanks again,

            Mark
