• Explorer storing all searches (XP Home)

I’m just guessing this is an appropriate place to ask this particular question, so if I need to be directed elsewhere…

Explorer stores information you enter in sites such as login names and passwords, but I was surprised to find that it has recorded everything I have searched for in Google! Where does it store these little bits of info and how can I clear them all away? If ever there were a feature with potential for unrestrained growth, this would be it. I can understand recording one or two items entered into a dialog box, but everything?

Do you mean Internet Explorer? If so, which version?

        Hi Leif,

I have the same question on this issue. I am using WinXP, IE 6.0.2600.

OK – I believe this to be an IE issue and will move the thread accordingly . . .

IE 6.00.2600, included with XP Home

What happens to those saved passwords?
Q: I want to remove the file that is created when I choose to remember my password in certain Windows

Thanks for the response. I do have a couple of questions about this particular piece of information, though. First, does it apply at all to XP Home (I’ve found so many things that are simply unavailable in XP Home compared to XP Pro)- is there, in fact a “Credentials Manager” and, second, if it exists, where do I find it? BTW, cleared Forms and the stored search strings at the Google site disappeared. thanks.

I found 151 entries at MS using Google.com advance services.
Also I found 15 entries using Windows XP “Help and Search” with the online search turned on.

The above searches were on the words “Credential Manager ” without the quotes.

      Hi Cotton:
      Tools/Internet Options/Content tab/Auto Complete button/Forms

You can either clear the checkbox to prevent such information from being stored or you can press Clear Forms.

There are also third party programs (e.g., AutoWhat?) that allow you selectively delete various stored form data.
