Suddenly, when I tried to open internet expolorer yesterday I received an error message

The instruction at “0x77fcc2c6” referenced memory at “0x00000000”.The memory could
    not be “read”.

Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on CANCEL to debug the program

selecting either button produced a further dialog which was headed

    Internet Explorer Compatibility mode

This is being run in compatibility mode and not all features are enabled.

Selecting OK then does open explorer and you can log on. But some pages are very slow and eventually none load – whether this is just concidence or to do with the foregoing I don’t know.

I have tried to uninstall explorer – the pc wants to try and repair it – I tell it to go ahead, but then it tells me it can’t.

I try to uninstall explorer but it wont do that either.

I try to install another copy of 5.5 over the top and it wont do that!!

    Any suggestions please

    thanks

      Start, Settings, Control Panel
      Add remove Programs
      Select Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5
      Click on Add/Remove.

Ensure that the “Restore the previous Windows configuration” radio button is checked, then click on OK.

Your system will proceed with uninstalling 5.5.

If this doesn’t work, there is 5.5SP2 out, you can get it here.

As long as you’re not already using SP2, you should be able to upgrade over your existing version without a problem.
