Experience with a Windows Explorer replacement?

Having managed to avoid Vista, I find that the Windows Explorer in Windows 7 is significantly frustrating and less usable for me than the XP version of Windows Explorer.

Can anyone recommend a (preferably-free!) reliable and functional alternative to Windows Explorer which runs under Windows 7, both 32-bit and 64-bit?

Yeah, I hear you! Google Cubic Explorer, it’s a free download. Quite flexible also. Good Luck. ((Actually the Win 7 Explorer is a very significant improvement over what they had in the Beta).

This: http://www.cubicreality.com/ is a link directly from the developer of Cubic Explorer, which makes me believe this is still a work in progress. I got this link directly from one of the download sites for Cubic Explorer v 0.90.0.1131 I think I will hold off for now on this softwaree

I’m sorry, but at those prices it isn’t even worth my time evaluating it. I would want to use it, very occasionally, on up to 30 or so PCs, and the costs for our charity would be prohibitive. Even at home, on about three possible machines, that’s too much.

But if I win the lottery I will bear it in mind!

i’ve used xplorer2 for years and found it does everything i need and then some. there’s a “lite” version which is free for personal/academic use:

Try Xplorer2 http://zabkat.com/. It has both a 32 and 64 bit version and is free to try. At $29.95 if you like it it is hardly expensive.

The context is that we can get a copy of Small Business Server 2008 Premium Edition + 5 CALs to run on two servers for the princely sum of just under £46 including VAT, via Microsoft’s charity donation scheme…

Much later on…
Now that I read the xplorer2 licensing conditions again, I observe that it covers many people on one computer, or one person on many computers – the latter being appropriate. On very initial testing, I like the lite version of this product, and will see how it matches (or maybe even exceeds) my expectations…!

Yes, it’s not cheap, but when you look at how much it can do, and what it replaces, it turns out to be a good deal.
