What happened to Tools / Expand slide command in XP. There also was a feature were the system would check styles? It you had a period after one bullet item and not another. It would let you know if you had more the 3 different fonts in your presentation etc. Where is that?

AskWoody LoungerFebruary 3, 2003 at 8:55 pm #650137I don’t recall the Tools/Expand command (can’t find it on my PPT 2000 install). However, for the second part of your question – you can find the Spelling and Style dialogue box under Tools/Options. You find a checkbox to check the styles and also a button leading to Style Options.
Hope this helps!

Catherine,
I think there used to be 2 complimentary features in ppt 97 that seem like they’re gone in 2000 (which I have) and XP (assume MS carried the absence of these features forward):
– take a single slide and create new slides where the title of each new slide is taken from the 1st level bullet of the single slide (expand)
– take a series of slides and create a “contents” slide based on the titles of the selected series of slidesIn fact, searching my archives of great Lounge tips, I found post 169030, which confirmed the expand feature is gone from 2000 and XP. Last August, LennyJo responded to the absence of this feature thus:
“You are referring to the infamous “Expand Slide” tool. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it’s a goner. They took it away in version 2000 for no appearant reason. (SOB’s). I’ve already put it on the Wish LIst for them to give it back in the next version. I hope others will voice the same demand.
Do you know how to expand a slide in Outline view?
1) Select the slide icon of what you want expanded.
2) Choose Insert Duplicate Slide from the Insert menu.
3) Highlight the bullets in the duplicate slide (not the title).
4) Click the promote button.
5) Delete the extra title produced from inserting a duplicate slide.I know it’s not as great as the original tool, but it gets the job done.”
I agree.

AskWoody LoungerFebruary 4, 2003 at 7:20 pm #650457Thanks for reminding me of that series of posts.
I have to admit – the reason I’d forgotten about that feature is that I never found it personally useful in the first place. That being said – one of the strengths of the wide feature sets in MS products is its flexibility to different people’s work styles. Thanks again.

AskWoody LoungerFebruary 4, 2003 at 3:09 pm #650398The Expand Slide feature has been gone since PPT 97. http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00411.htm%5B/url%5D will give you some options for restoring that functionality, though.
