• Excel2003 losing printer? (Excel 2003)

Has anyone else experienced problems with Office 2003 (primarily Excel and Word) suddenly losing their printer? We’ve had several users at work experience this periodically — other programs on the machine will print fine, the printer is fine, but if you hit “print” from within Excel (sometimes happens with Word, too), it acts like it is printing, but nothing actually happens.

Rebooting always resolves the issue and allows the program to connect to the printer, but I’m just wondering why this is happening, and if others have experience this same problem. (Networked environment, all printers networked). It is totally random as to how often it happens.

Could it be a problem with limited resources (memory)? I’ve never encountered this problem where I work (hundreds of people using Office 2003).

I guess that is a possibility. I will have to think of some ways to track that as users call in — to see if that could be a reason. (How much RAM they have – how many windows they have open at the time, etc.) We never had the problem while using Office 2000, and we only converted to Office 2003 within the last 8 months, and then began experiencing this issue randomly.
