Excel won't print to my laser printer

When I try to print to my Brother laser printer from any Excel spreadsheet, nothing prints. If I print to my Canon inkjet, the sheet prints. In all other applications printing to the laser works just fine.
If I select the ‘Find Printer’ button in the Excel print dialog, I get the following error, which means absolutely nothing to me.
“The Active Directory Domain Service is currently unavailable.”
Any ideas anyone?

Googling that error message brings up many suggestions including this one at Tech Support Guy.

If that doesn’t help, what version of Excel? Operating system? Local or network printer?

Office Pro 2003 SP3 running on a fully updated Vista machine.
I don’t think that error has anything to do with my inability to print to the Brother laser because:

[*]All the printers are already visible in the print dialog.
[*]I get the same error if I do the same thing in MS Word, yet Word prints to the laser just fine.
