Excel Resource Usage

Does anyone know of methods which will decrease the resource usage of excel? I.E. How can I load excel with a bare minimum of resource usage? Does loading with no toolbars have any effect?

I for one have never had to worry about it. I suspect that’s the case with a lot of the loungers.

Is there a reason why?

Yeah, we’re running windows 98 networks here with Sun software, which gobbles up resources like Crazy… in some instances, users have approximately 10% resources free without running Excel. If I can minimize the throughput of excel to make it as resource friendly as possible, that would be ideal.

There comes a point when the only option is to beef up the hardware! (yeah, I know it’s hard to sell to the bean-counters, but if it stops you doing the job….)

btw, I used to be bean-counter, but I had to convince other (more stoutly and impressionable) bean-counters to give me what I need… i’d rather just look for an alternative, (like this!) Thanks again!

Ouch! 10% free BEFORE any apps? Sounds to me as if your LAN people need to be tuning their 90%, and not leaving you with the work on the other 10%.

It also perhaps explains why some of your timer loops in other threads were taking up all the resources for you, when they were working fine for other people.

I guess, for a start, you could turn AutoCalculate off for Excel- but you might have some unhappy users.
