      If you insert thr formula to count before you actually do a filter, the problems you are experiencing can arise. The best way too enter these formulas is actually filter your list (filter on a Not Equal to a value you know is not in the list)first. You will notice that when a filter is in place, the row numbers on the left show in blue.
      Enter your subtotal() formulas in the first row that does not have a blue row number. Then the subtotals should be visible after each filter. (Subtotal(3,Range) = count).
