    I ofter filter a data table to remove rows I don’t want. I define the area then I invoke Alt A T which sets the filter drop downs. When I am done, I invoke Alt A T again to remove the filter but Excel crashes. It is not a because the file is corrupt – it happens on new files I am trying to create. I do this all the time at work – no problem. I am up to date with Office updates. Any ideas?

      RMS,

      Welcome to the Lounge as a new poster! :cheers:

      I just tried it on my version of Excel 2010 and had no problems. You may want to try a repair install of Excel or Office. HTH :cheers:

      I was too quick to respond. It worked like it supposed to for about an hour then it started behaving badly again. I did the repair install but it didn’t last.

      Try it on a different PC. If it works on that, then you have either hardware or software corruption.

      What version of Windows are you running? Did you recently upgrade to Windows 8.x? If so, is that when the problem started?

      Occasionally things don’t work in Windows 8.x that worked in prior versions of Windows.

        I’m running Vista. I wonder now if it is me keyboard shorting out or something like that. I noticed on one crash that the crash occurred before I pressed T in the Alt A T sequence.

      Does it happen with every spreadsheet or only particular ones?

      Try bypassing the keyboard by using the sendKey method. Place in a standard module then run the macro through the Developer Tab> Macros> FilterKeys> Run

      Code:
      Public Sub FilterKeys()
      SendKeys “%at”
      End Sub

      Thanks for the all of the suggestions. I think that the problem is is my keyboard. Sometimes the keyboard short cuts work, sometimes they cause Excel to crash. When it crashes, Excel is able to create a recovery file. When that happens, I just use the Filter icon on the Data tab until the file is saved.

      RMS,

      Sounds like a good keyboard cleaning with some compressed air is in order before you replace the KB. HTH :cheers:
