It used to be that putting ‘/e’ after the target (and outside the quote marks) in an Excel shortcut would open that program without the splash screen and no blank workbook and all the instructions I have found say that this still applies.

However, I can’t get it to work. Anyone got any ideas?

Works fine for me on WinXP. Which OS are you using?

      I tried it as follows: “C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft OfficeOffice12EXCEL.EXE” /e

      Worked for me.

So are you getting both splash screen and startup file, or one or the other?

I’m NOT getting the splash screen, just the empty workbook

Do you have any files in any of your startup directories? (the 2 XLSTART folders and any additional startup folder you may have specified in the Options)

Just to check – the blank workbook you are getting is called Book1.xls?
