Do any of you have experience with the Ewido Antispyware suite? A friend of mine is advocating its use, after it picked up several nasties that his other antispyware programs missed. He said that Ewido reported MS Antispyware as malware, but that he could live with that false positive because of the others it found. I’d never heard of Ewido. Apparently, you can try the Pro version for two weeks, then, if you opt not to pay the $29.95 (US), Ewido reverts to the freeware version. So, Loungers, do you know anything about this program from first-hand experience? Ewido

There’s an earlier thread about Ewido: post 508,591, but no first-hand experience there.

Thanks, Hans. Must have missed that thread somehow. I did notice, however, that the review the link points to is a year old. I’ll have to Google around for something more recent.

Thanks, John. Will check the link you provided as soon as my morning coffee kicks in…

I do notice that Ewido is billed as Anti-Trojan, which is not as general as anti-spyware, so be careful. I happen to use TrojanHunter, but I also run CounterSpy, Spybot S&D and PestPatrol on an active basis. An anti-Trojan alone is insufficient.

Thanks for the heads up, Charlotte. I’m thinking of retrying Trojan Defense Shield — if it’s still available. I used it years ago, in 1998, before there was a real need for such a program, but now might be a good time to revisit it. While I’m at it, I think I’ll see if I can dig up my old copy of Proxomitron (sp?), and see if it still is effective. Thanks again.
            Liberty thankyou

Personally I go for Eric Howes’ advice on the matter of spyware.

There’s a review of Ewido on this webpage. Later — this was also pointed to by one of the posts in the thread Hans mentioned!

I did try this program quite some time ago but ended up removing it for SOME reason(s) that I can’t recall.
I just wasn’t impressed with it enough to keep it, I suppose.
Maybe the later version was improved. Maybe.
