I’ve had a few people with Windows 7 ask me about Sticky Notes. Here’s all I know, in case you didn’t even know about them at all, or the features available.
Sticky Notes come with the following versions of Windows 7
Home Premium
Professional
Ultimate
Enterprise
The default install location is C:WindowsSystem32StikyNot.exe
Behavior
Clicking the X on a note DELETES it (When the last note is deleted, Sticky Notes closes: see autorun info below)
Clicking the + on a note creates a new note of the same colour (see formatting below)
Right Clicking on the taskbar icon and clicking Close Window will save all the notes (See next two points)
Whenever started Sticky Notes adds itself to the Autorun in the registry
Whenever closed Sticky Notes removes itself to the Autorun in the registry
Thus:
If running, and you Shut Down/Log Off/Restart, Sticky Notes automatically load and all notes will reappear with your desktop (Position, Size and Colour of notes are also saved).
Formatting
Notes can be resized like any Window. Easiest is click-drag on any corner.
Right-Click on any note for options to change Note colour.
Ctrl+B Bold
Ctrl+I Italics
Ctrl+U Underline
Ctrl+T Strikethrough
Ctrl+Shift+L Bulleted List (Repeat to cycle through Bulleted/Numbered/Lettered/Roman)
Ctrl+Shift+> Increase text size
Ctrl+Shift+ All Programs -> Accessories -> Sticky Notes
You can pin it to the task bar at this point.
Creating a shortcut
Right-Click on Desktop -> Click New -> Click Shortcut -> Type StikyNot -> Click Next -> Type a name for the shortcut or accept the default and Click Finish (or just copy the shortcut from the Start Menu to your desktop)
If I missed anything feel free to add it!
Cheers,
Nathan
