It will be interesting to see if he tries the Microsoft-specified cables, and if that fixes the problem.

If specific cables fix the problem, then I personally would consider it not an issue. The one thing that Microsoft should do is make it clear in the documentation that comes with the computer which cables are needed for an external monitor.

I’ve seen a similar problem with a Dell XPS 15.  It was the cable.

Including the specific cable type with the product could be helpful to the customer.
