I have typed in a reply to a post, and when I click “submit” receive the two (attached) error messages.
I had typed the reply in the “visual” box, using the various toolbar buttons to format some text in Bold, Italic, and Heading3.

A message “Your reply can not be created at this time” is practically without value. It tells me that ‘there is an error”, without telling me  what the error is, or where related. It is akin to going to the Post office and asking “can you mail this to Texas” and getting the response “No”.

Of course my immediate need is to make the post, but then, I would like to know if the error message could be augmented with at least an error code , but better, a text that tells me where I, or a helpful member of AskWoody, could work out what to change so that I can achieve my objective this morning.

    With thanks

This is a filter backfiring: it could be anything in a comment, maybe some combination of characters, that sets the filter off. I have had this happen a few times and the reason, when actually found, was something quite OK the filter rejected who knows why.

We have a spam filter of Akismet that can throw off weird errors.  We also have a love hate relationship with Wordfence that can block things if either you or your ISP are doing weird stuff with your traffic.  Can you try it again?

Hi Susan. I have edited out every bit of “formatting”, be it MSWord or HTML, that I can see, and pasted the result into a text file. Attached.
But I still get the error.
        There are two issues here:-
        (1) My original point that a message “Your reply can not be created at this time” that provides no indication at all of the possible cause of the error does nothing to help a poster and
        (2) The less important business of providing a supportive reply to a member’s post.
        Thanks
        Chris

I looked at Error.txt that you provided as information. You have included a personal webpage address which may be the problem.

The other problem, and this problem may not flag forum errors, is that the wannabe-post is extremely rude.

And while we’re here, your post above is festooned with HTML that must be cleaned by a moderator:

OK. The text above is copy/pasted from a Word2003 document, where twelve hours ago, I copied it FROM the text box in AskWoody.
This morning I tried twice to submit it (thinking maybe some weird timing error).

Of course I don’t guarantee exactly the same number of characters and so on, but that was the “what’s going on” I tried to post AFTER my original post (in another thread) had triggered the error. I tried THAT submission twice, so that makes two submissions with two different blocks of text within about fifteen minutes of each other.

I will try to submit the first text tomorrow morning, but as far as I can see there is nothing threatening (to a spam filter) in either block of text.
        Thanks

Perhaps you could try copying the text to a plain ASCII text file, then getting rid of anything in it that looks funny (as I always do), and not to a Word one. Who knows what stuff objectionable to one of those filters lurks deep down below the text in Word files!

In the past twelve months I have had two filter-related problems in AskWoody so far, for the first time since the Big Bang. Both after Susan started rearranging the furniture here, as she has put it.

Eventually, after much laborious research by Susan and friends, the reason was found, the comments edited to remove it and then, finally, they got posted. But this had a large  “effort put into solving this, to why are we doing this” ratio.

I like the rearrangement, by the way, and, as usual, expect also to run against some rearranged bugs in it.

          Good luck.

As you can see from the extra characters, word leads behind a ton of extra characters.  I typically copy from word and then right mouse click and paste as text and that removes any unnecessary stuff.

Works pretty much the same with Word files in a Mac.

      Thank you Susan.
      back to my original request:
I would like to know if the error message could be augmented with at least an error code , but better, a text
I appreciate that there may be a variety of reasons for the error cropping up, but perhaps the error message could briefly suggest three or four of the most likely causes.
I regularly use Notepad as a cleaning filter.
If the error message had hinted at that, I could have tried that technique. As it is, being told that there is an error is not really helpful at all.

If you have at your fingertips the three most common causes for this error, can they be used in place of the existing error message?

From a programming point of view one could dive into the code and examine every line of code that calls up this error message; I am sure that your workload is too heavy for that. But a top-of-the-head effort might save much frustration.
      Thanks

I would like to know if the error message could be augmented

      No it can’t.
The system attempts to keep the spam at bay and sometimes the result is less than ideal for users.

      cheers, Paul
