Microsoft shows me a big message saying I should upgrade from Win10 to Win11 24H2. OK, I bite the bullet and click to install the upgrade. After it downloads and runs, I get this message:

Your PC isn’t supported on this version of Windows. Windows Update will automatically offer you this version of Windows once the issue has been resolved.

On Settings / Windows Update I found the error code 0x8024a205.

What the heck? Microsoft stupidity offering me an update that won’t work!

Has anyone else run into this? Now what? Do I just wait or is there another way to install Win11 on my device?

My configuration: Microsoft Surface Go 2. 8 gigs RAM. Windows 10 Home 22H2.

      Some possible causes:

System file corruption – In an elevated Command Prompt run:
      DISM /online /cleanup-image /RestoreHealth
      sfc /scannow

Insufficient drive space – Check your free space on the drive

Outdated or incompatible device driver – check Device Manager. Any yellow triangles? Check your drivers are up to date, particularly video, sound, chipset

      Third-party A/V conflict – if you are running non-MS A/V

In an elevated Command Prompt run:
        DISM /online /cleanup-image /RestoreHealth
        sfc /scannow

I ran both of these, and now Win11 is successfully installed. I had to plug in an external drive because I didn’t have enough free disk space, but that was the only hangup. Thanks for the tip!

Susan doesn’t recommend W11 for machines with less than 16GB, she suggests 32GB.
