Just in the past few days, IE has started popping up error boxes at almost every webpage I visit. “A runtime error has occured. Do you wish to Debug? Line: # Error: (Varies) When I clicked on the Smilies link here in the forum the Error line showed: Class Not Registered, Line # 102
Windows 2000 box that has been running just fine, no new hardware or software added in over a month. (No pop up software installed, medium security settings.) Latest IE patch is installed.
Note too: pop windows are blank. Example: MS’s Knowledge Base articles no longer load in seperate windows, IE will sit there and then all of a sudden load the article in the main window.

    THanks!

      Hi Kris:
This is a guess, until someone more knowledgeable on IE can answer. Under Tools/InternetOptions, Advanced tab, make sure Disable script debugging is ticked. On the same tab, you might also check under security settings & see if you’re checking for server certificate revocations.

Regarding the blank windows, do you have any add blocking software? For example, I have to disable ad blocking on this site in order to use the TagPanel.

By the way, I’ve noticed that sometimes clicking a link on the KB brings up a new window & sometimes it doesn’t. I get in the habit of holding the shift key down when I click a link–which occasionally causes an error.

      Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help Phil. I changed the script debugging setting which stopped the pop windows and then repaired IE 6. I still see some occasional blank windows but nothing major. It was just wierd behavior I would expect from my test machine, not a machine that I don’t modify often!
