On two occasiones in the last two days I have gotten a strange error message, once on start-up, and the other time during normal operation. The error says “Windows Explorer, 1ed3b7feac466fd426972961076600 does not exist or is not a directory.” The system seems to continue to function without anomalies, but it makes me nervous. I recently removed and sucessfully reinstalled Access 97. No other recent hardware nor software changes. I use Windows ME

Perhaps try System Restore to a point prior to two days ago.

I would lose the installation of Access if I did that, which I do not want to do. Is there any other approach? In this instant, the message poped up again!

Sounds suspicious in that the problem appeared after installing Access. Do you have to reboot when the error occurs?

In your initial post, you indicated that you “removed” Access. Do you mean uninstalled via Control Panel and not just deleted? If you deleted, there may be some remnants of the program that are causing the error message.

A Google search of the message (and variants of it) came up with nothing. You might, therefore, consider uninstalling Access, then seeing if the error message reappears. If so, you know what the problem is. If not, then you can reinstall the program. Also, run ScanDisk and Defrag. System Restore still remains a option.

I just close the error message and everything seems to function OK. I “uninstalled” the Access program via the Add/Remove procedure.

I did the systems restore, then re-installed Access from Add/Remove. My Norton Anti-virus started giving me problems, and the original problems with Access remained. I returned to the original restore state, Access is functioning, Norton is OK, and we will see what happens with the strange error message.
