My ISP is changing from ATT to Comcast. I have been unable to use Outlook the last couple of days, so I called them. They only support Outlook Express, but they tried to help. They walked me through the new settings in Outlook Express, and they worked fine, so I imported to Outlook 2002. I can now receive mail from the POP server, but can’t send out on the SMTP server. I called tech support back, and they verified Outlook settings. See attachments for error messages. Can anyone provide any ideas?

AskWoody LoungerJune 26, 2003 at 5:15 am #688957The settings migrate to slightly different dialogs in Outlook 2002. Here’s an example of the complex settings for AT&T Worldnet; I can’t recall whether Comcast/ATTBI uses authentication or not, but if it does, check your port numbers on the Advanced tab and make sure your SMTP port is set for 465 rather than the default of 25.

Did you “so I imported to Outlook 2002” or did you type the settings in by editing the accounts setting?
I have nothing but problems with some of the “Import” tools.
Both entries for POP and SMTP should be “mail.attbi.com” with out the quotes. Come end of June you should have “mail.comcast.net” in both locations. If you have down loaded the wizard, come June 30th when you reboot, the settings will be made and your mail being set to attbi will be forwarded until the end of December 2004. If you do NOT use the wizard, you will have NO mail forwarding.
The above is assumed that you are talking about your attbi account and not some other third party email account.

AskWoody LoungerJune 27, 2003 at 1:01 am #689297First, I apologize. After looking at ATTBI’s Outlook Express Configuration page, it looks as though secure login is not required. Please ignore those unusual settings on my AT&T Worldnet screens. You probably don’t need any authentication, and can use port 25.
Second, did Comcast suggest using their transition wizard?
FAQs
Does the Transition Wizard send any information about me to Comcast?
No. The Transition Wizard will run each time your computer starts up, until the server side activation for the Wizard is set after July 1st, 2003. The Wizard does not contain any personally identifiable information about you or your PC and will not transmit any information to the Comcast servers. When the server-side application is activated, you will be prompted with a series of screens and the Wizard will automatically convert your Outlook Express and Internet options to work with the Comcast High-Speed Internet Service.
How do I check my ATTBI e-mail after I have transitioned?
If you download and install the Transition Wizard and use Outlook Express, or configure your e-mail client to check the Comcast.net e-mail servers, your attbi.com e-mail will automatically be forwarded to your new Comcast.net e-mail address through 2004.
I downloaded the Transition Wizard and my settings are the same. Did it not work?
The Wizard has two parts. The first part is preparation. The second part configures your settings for the Comcast service. You have just completed the first part. The second part will happen when you restart your computer after June 30th, 2003.
It’s sounding like they want you to give up a bit of control here… and that it won’t fix your situation until Tuesday at the earliest.
Here’s a random idea: change your SMTP server to smtp.comcast.net and see if they let you send that way.
