I have a user who opened a 97 database in 2003. While, she was working, she got an error message and then told the dialog box – yes. I am not sure of the exact message but it did not sound good. Anyway, she can not access it now. I have tried both version 97 and 2003 and I get the following:
microsoft jet database engine could not find the object ‘Database’. Make sure the object exist and that you spell its name and path correctly. Once you accept the message, it takes you out and then NOTHING. Please help!

Sounds as if the database has become corrupt. Can you import objects from the problem database into a blank new database?

If that doesn’t work, I hope the user has a recent non-corrupt backup of the database.
