There’s a disconnect between the date/time of the “most recent” post shown in the freshness column when looking at a main forums page and the actual “most recent” post shown when looking at the actual topics forums.

Here’s the view of the “Windows” forum page showing the date/time of the most recent post in the “Windows 10” forum.

And here’s the view of the “Windows 10” forum showing the date/time of the most recent post.

As you can see, there’s a huge difference between the date/time shown for the posts.

      I’ll investigate.  Thanks!

It’s in order of importance of the poster.  🙂

      cheers, Paul

Let me know if you still see issues.  Apparently on these older forum sections I had to post a new post to kick it to refresh after moving things around.

FWIW I have often found that using ‘new posts since last visit’ will get messages that I missed from way before. I use ‘new posts last day’ to over come some of this.

Just because you don't know where you are going doesn't mean any road will get you there.

wavy: According to something Susan wrote some time ago on similar remarks by me, this has something to do with  “needing to clean the caches”, because it not had been done in a while. I don’t know how that works, but that was her explanation. Maybe you’ll understand it. I am OK knowing that it can happen, and is a maintenance issue.

It can also happen in any of the “New posts:” lists, as you say. That was the one where posts were missing, when I mentioned this to her.

      One more data point:

In “Cyber Security Information and Advisories/Cyber Security for Home Users”  I am the last commenting there, right now as I write this, with a last entry dated in that list as 3 hours, 11 minutes, while in the actual thread it reads 3 hours, 12 minutes. Back quickly to the “Cyber Security  etc.” list, still reads there 3 hours, 11 minutes.
So: yes, there is a discrepancy, but it can also be quite small, at least in some cases.

That’s not what he’s talking about.  Rather the freshness was missing entire posts, not a mere minute time difference.  There is a bug that crops up in categorized forums that after things have been moved around a new post has to be made to kick the database. What you are referring to is more likely a result of caching in your browser.

      Susan,

That fixed the date/time stamp issue but now the author of the newest post isn’t right.

View of the “Windows” forum page showing the date/time and “author” of the most recent post in the “Windows 10” forum.

      Windows-Forum

View of the “Windows 10” forum showing the date/time and “author” of the most recent post.

      Window10-Forum

BTW, except for the link shown on the Windows page for the Windows 10 topic, clicking the link for the most recent post shown for any forum/topic does take you to the most recent post for that forum/topic which will be by the author shown.

The link shown on the “Windows” forum page takes you to your last post to that forum (which does not match the date/time stamp shown above your name.)

The link shown on the “Windows 10” forum page takes you to the post by Alex5723 which is the actual most recent post to that forum.

So there’s still a problem somewhere in the S/W that’s not properly updating the links in the database, but only for the Windows 10 forum.

BTW, BTDT numerous times and understand how difficult it can sometimes be to track down and fix the cause of such a esoteric problem… especially after rearranging an existing forum setup!

Apparently it’s a known issue with categories and bbpress. I may have to post in each forum to get it to “kick” a refresh.

        Susan,

As of this morning it seems to be working as it should (i.e. date/time stamp and author displayed on the “Windows” forum page actual matches the most current post on the “Windows 10” forum page.)

        Thanks!
