I have been unable to install new programs and always get the 1606 error ” Could not access network location %USERPROFILE%My DocumentsMy Pictures.”
I tracked down the error code and tried the fix suggested by Micrososft – no luck. Other fixes suggested on the web have also failed to resolve the situation. Then I noted a similar posting in this forum post 472913 and that led me to a suggested fix ( post 470328) and ultimately a download of the Windows Installer (latest). All to no avail I’m afraid.

I know I have a problem with the My Pictures folder (e.g. I cannot get it to appear on my start menu) and I have checked the registry but have not found anything odd or missing. If I open a new account I can resolve the My Pictures issue buit still cannot install any programs.

Can anyone suggest a solution or point me in the right direction.

Are you on a home network or one at work ??? It may also have something to do with you not having SP2 installed.

There’s a VBScript script file fix from Kelly’s Korner here at #66 that might apply to your problem.
