I’m using Outlook 2010 on a Win 7 64-bit system with the reading pane located at the bottom of the page. Sometimes when I single click on a message, it will expand to full size as if I had double clicked it, which is not what I want it to do. Similarly when I try to close that message by clicking on the X button in the upper right hand corner, it will occasionally completely shut down Outlook requiring me to open it again from the beginning. However, this process is totally random and I have no idea what to expect each time I perform this task.

I’ve already done a Repair of the entire MS Office Professional under Programs in the Control Panel, but that hasn’t helped it at all. Is there anything else you can think of to suppress this misbehavior?

I have found some add-ins can cause mysterious things to occur with reading panes.

Anything in particular? I’m using Firefox 18 with some ad blockers. Is there something else I should be looking at?

Actually, those are just browser Add-ons. The only Outlook Add-ins I have are for eClean and Send to Bluetooth, which I never use.

If you don’t use them, you could try disabling them or removing them to see if the behavior improves.
