    A Question from a novice!
Is it safe to do eg internet banking using the pc connected to ADSL broadband via a wireless router? I am ‘told’ that bank encryption is good and I also use router security set up WPA-PSK … whatever that is! Or should I plug the ADSL modem cable straight into the pc when doing these ‘money things’ and not go via the router?

If you have configured your Wireless Access Point to use WPA-PSK then it is fine for this purpose.

You still need to take precautions against fishing sites, and make sure that you really are talking to your bank’s website before you entre any passwords or other confidential information.

The quality of security of the various online banking/building society websites varies quite a lot, I’ve found. Some will quite happily allow you to ‘save’ some of the account details from the various fields, in Firefox for example, without requiring you to type the information in each time. Others won’t (e.g. Smile fanfare).

If you have a firewall router, and a software firewall, antivirus and antispyware on your PC/laptop, then you are doing as much as you practically can to reduce the possibility of your details being stolen – but, as Stuart say, beware that you are really talking to the correct address!

You can use BBCodes to format your content.
Your account can't use all available BBCodes, they will be stripped before saving.
