I’ve saved a document with a true type font embedded. I then remove the font from my Windows XP and Word XP machine to test the document. But Word substitutes Arial for my TT font (Engraver’s Gothic BT). Yet this same document with the embedded font works perfectly (ie, the embedded font displays correctly and there is no font substitution) in Word 2000 (on my laptop, also running Windows XP). I’ve tried various save options (only include characters in use both on and off, etc.) with still the same results. Is there some setting in Word XP controlling this behavior? THANKS ALL!

      Hi David:
Not sure. Does Tools/Options/Compatibility tab/Font Substitutions… offer any hints? i.e. are there different settings under the compatibility options or Font Substitutions?

There is nothing there that seems to control this behavior. Microsoft KB describes copywritten fonts – that they won’t embed. But the font does embed in the document – the doc size increases, and it comes over in Word 2000. It’s like Word XP is either blocking this from happening, or checking ownership rights or something.
